1992 – 1996

Our history can be traced back with the establishment of Optima Machinery (M) Sdn Bhd in 1992, which subsequently changed its name to Techbond Manufacturing Sdn Bhd in 1993. Techbond Manufacturing Sdn Bhd was dormant until 1996, when we began business operations as a developer and manufacturer of industrial adhesives. We manufacture  our in-house developed water-based adhesive in the same year, and began to manufacture the product. This water-based adhesive was for woodworking applications, such as finger jointing.

Techbond (Sabah) Sdn Bhd was incorporated in 1996. It is focused on selling and marketing our products, and providing customer support to customers in Sabah.

We recorded our first export sales in 1996 when we sold our water-based adhesives for woodworking to China. We have since successfully expanded our foreign market presence.

1999

In 1999, we had our first product independently certified as meeting the D4 class for water resistance under the DIN EN 204 standard, which was a water-based adhesive for woodworking applications. We have since obtained independent certifications for other industrial adhesives that comply with the D3 and D4 classes under the DIN EN 204 standard.

2001

We diversified our product range in 2001 when we started to develop and manufacture water-based adhesives for paper and packaging applications.

2002

In 2002 we incorporated Techbond Vietnam, opened a branch office in Binh Duong Province, Vietnam and leased a plot of land at Binh Thung Hamlet, Binh An Commune, Binh Duong Province, Vietnam.

2003

In 2003, we further diversified our business into developing and manufacturing hot melt adhesives. We began manufacturing our first hot melt adhesive at our Shah Alam Factory Complex. In the same year, we also began to develop and manufacture water-based adhesive for the building and construction industry, which included flooring and roofing applications.

Our water-based adhesives for woodworking applications were independently certified by FRM to achieve the most stringent class, with the lowest allowable formaldehyde emissions. These water-based adhesives for woodworking applications achieved the F**** grade under the Japanese Agricultural Standard 223 (Plywood) (JAS 223). We have since obtained certification for water-based and hot melt adhesives for building materials, fixtures, fibreboards and particleboards.

2005

In 2005, we further expanded our product range when we developed and manufactured water-based adhesives for use in automotive applications.

2006

In 2006, we obtained independent certification for one of our water-based adhesives for woodworking applications for complying with the Restriction of Hazardous Substance Directive (ROHS).  ROHS is a directive adopted by the European Union that restricts the use of specified hazardous materials in products used by consumers.  We have since obtained various independent certification stating that other industrial adhesives manufactured by us are ROHS compliant.

2008

In 2008, we acquired the ‘STARBOND’ brand and range of industrial adhesives, including related formulations, trademark, and other intellectual property rights. This range of adhesive is used on the paper that has the tobacco on each stick of cigarette. We entered this segment of the market through this acquisition as we did not have similar products at that time.  The acquisition also expanded our geographical market coverage, as the ‘STARBOND’ range of industrial adhesives were exported to countries that we did not serve prior to the acquisition, such as the United Arab Emirates.

2013 – 2015

We diversified our product range to include industrial sealants in 2013.  These industrial sealants were initially manufactured for us by an external company on a contract manufacturer basis. We subsequently began to manufacture our own industrial sealants in 2015.  Our industrial sealants are mainly used in building and construction applications

2018

5th December 2018, Techbond Group Berhad went listed on the main market of Bursa Malaysia. We raised approximately RM39.67mil from its initial public offering (IPO), the proceeds were to finance the expansion of new facility in the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park 2 in Binh Duong Province, Vietnam.

2019-2020

Completion of new production facility in Vietnam, land area of 30,000 sq.mt. which focuses on the development and manufacturing of a base material, namely polyvinyl acetate (PVAc) polymer. New types of water-based adhesives will be manufactured using our own PVAc polymer as the base material for both paper and packaging and woodworking applications.
